Kurinuki &
Tama-zukuri

Handmade tea bowls have a long history in Japanese ceramics.

In this workshop, we’ll explore two ways of working with clay by hand: Tama-zukuri, where you pinch a form from a ball of clay, and Kurinuki, where you carve and hollow out a solid piece.

I’ll show you both techniques, then give you time to make your own cup or tea bowl. The shape doesn’t have to be perfectly even. The marks of your hands and tools can stay.
