THE SPACE WE HOLD

Without a fixed idea of where it should end, the sculpture was allowed to slowly find its own movement.

The organic forms reach towards one another, intersect and move alongside each other. They meet without merging, creating openings through which light and air can pass. The empty space is not an absence, but a living part of the work.

THE SPACE WE HOLD is about the space we give ourselves and one another. About meeting another human being with presence and respect, without shaping, restraining or taking over their path. A form of companionship in which we walk beside each other, allowing each person the space to find their own footing.

The sculpture is hand-built in coarse raku clay. Its black, golden and earthy shades emerged through an intuitive exploration of several matte glazes.

The colours do not merely decorate the form; they move with it, accentuating its ever-changing landscape.

THE SPACE WE HOLD is not only about caring for others. It is also about the respect we show for our own lives by giving them room to unfold in their own form.
