MOON JAR

My interpretation of the traditional Korean Moon Jar. Handbuilt in black stoneware and fired in an anagama kiln, where flame, ash and time were allowed to leave their own marks.

Before firing, I worked porcelain slip, mussel shells and fragments of 400-year-old copper nails from Frederiksborg Castle into the surface.

The nails once belonged to the architecture of a Danish Renaissance castle, built during the reign of Christian IV. For centuries they had a practical purpose — holding something together.

Now they no longer hold anything. They have become part of the surface.

Part of another object.

Part of another time.

I love that transformation.

The jar carries traces of my hands, the kiln, the sea and a piece of history — none of them fully controllable, all of them permanently embedded in the clay.

A vessel made not to preserve perfection, but to carry traces.
