EARTH

Small enough to rest in the palm, EARTH feels like a fragment of ground lifted from somewhere deep below the surface.

Its rugged body catches the light in shifting tones of soil, bronze, charcoal and muted gold. As the cup turns in the hand, the fingers travel across angular planes, deep incisions and softened ridges. No two grips feel quite the same. The uneven rim meets the lips gently, inviting a slower, more attentive sip.

There is something ancient and elemental about it — as though shaped by pressure, darkness and time rather than by hands alone.

EARTH is a guinomi — a Japanese cup for drinking sake, traditionally larger and more substantial than an ochoko. It is carved and hollowed from a solid block of black clay using the Japanese kurinuki technique. Tool marks remain visible across the surface, preserving the rhythm and physicality of the making process.

Finished with a brown hare’s-fur glaze and fired in an electric kiln.

A one-of-a-kind guinomi, made to be held, turned and discovered.
