SHADOW

Shadow reflects the vessel’s dark surface and quiet, enigmatic presence.

Carved by hand from a solid block of clay using the Japanese kurinuki technique, this lidded vessel sits somewhere between a functional object and a small sculpture. Its irregular form has been allowed to emerge slowly through cutting, scraping and hollowing.

The deep, nearly black surface is broken by glimpses of warm, exposed clay. The marks left by the tools remain visible, forming a rugged landscape reminiscent of cooled lava, weathered rock or earth shaped by time.

Run your fingers across it, and the surface shifts beneath your touch — from sharp ridges to softer hollows, from raw clay to the subtle sheen of glaze. The lid follows the uneven line of the vessel, closing it like two pieces of stone finding their way back together.
